Oscars Style Favourites & Flops
If there’s any night in Hollywood that’s truly glamorous, it’s Oscar night! And what a stunning finale to a busy awards season it was!
We were really excited to see who was wearing what on the red carpet here at Pinksquid Clothing (let’s face it, it’s the most interesting part of the show!), and after a little deliberating we’ve managed to come up with our overall best and worst dresses of the evening….
The Best Dresses
Our favourite dress by far has got to be Reese Witherspoon’s Armani Prive gown. Whilst so many others were playing it safe, this 60′s style & black and white number really stands out. It fits Reese’s figure beautifully, and she truly owns the look. Her retro ponytail up-do and naughty smile make her look super cute. The dress is also reminiscent of Julia Robert’s Valentino dress she wore to the 2001 Oscars ceremony where she won the Best Actress award. Chic, Stylish and so next season!
We also loved Gwyneth Paltrow’s minimalist Calvin Klein dress. Many celebs would find it hard to pull off the tight shimmering fabric, but Gwyneth’s super-slender frame is perfect for the dress, and her sexy hair and make-up add the extra wow factor to the whole ensemble.
Mila Kunis looked fresh and youthful in her Lavender Elie Saab creation. The intricate lace, low-cut neckline and flowing layers of chiffon are simply gorgeous, and we love her matching shoes and bag!
Jennifer Hudson once again looked amazing on the red carpet, this time in a deep tangerine Versace gown. The star has lost an incredible amount of weight but this dress proves she’s not turned into a La-La Land stick instect and still has curves most women would kill for! The colour of this dress really brightens things up as well!
The Worst Dresses
Even though the frock frights were in short supply this year (thank goodness the Black Swan dominated proceedings without any sighting of a Björk swan!), there were still a few shockers we couldn’t fail to mention.
To start with-and this truly pains us to say because we LOVE her- is Madonna. Really, what on earth is this outfit about? She probably has one of the most toned bodies in the entire world, access to the best stylists in the world, and enough money to buy out half the fashion houses, but she wears this: A fur gilet and a pair of net curtains thrown over a leotard and tacky fishnet tights. NOT a good look. Lourdes looks lovely though!
Sharon Stone also made our worst dressed list. It looks like a fluffy bird has died on the shoulder of that mournful looking black dress, and the miserable look, severe make-up and painful up-do only heighten the dreary effect. We can only hope she was trying to stay on theme by being a black swan…..
Oscar winner Melissa Leo wore an utterly confounding Marc Bouwer dress. At least this stiff appliqued creation shows us what a giant doily might look like though.
Last but not least is Joan Collins. Ok, it’s not horrendous, even if it is a little bit too Dynasty for 2011, but after reports that she was rushed to hospital at the Vanity Fair Oscars party because her dress was too tight just goes to prove a girl can go a little too far in the name of fashion. After resigning herself to ‘not eating much’ due to the tightness of the dress, and then promptly fainting in her husbands arms and being rushed to hospital, she was told by doctors ‘not to wear such tight dresses — and to eat in future if expected to last the pace’.
Starving yourself to fit into a dress is never a good idea, but to end up feeling faint because it’s just way too tight is not what fashion is supposed to be about. For this reason this has got to be the worst dress of the night. Sorry Joan.
P.S We hope you’re ok now!

Grammy Awards 2011 Fashion: The Best & Worst Dresses (And an egg!)
Crazy Fashion at the Grammys
We’re well into awards season now and as always the Grammys proves to be one of the most interesting ceremonies in terms of the fashion. Unlike the Golden Globes and Baftas where haute couture and elegance rule the red carpet, the music award ceremony is all about slashed dresses, vivid colour, and lots of bling. Let’s forget New York fashion week is well underway for now, because on Sunday night one of the most entertaining runway shows took place in LA!
Eggcentric
As usual Lady Gaga was out to grab headlines by arriving in an egg (yes an egg- she was apparently ‘incubating’ in it to get into character). She then burst out of it onto the stage in a pale yellow crop top and long skirt with her long blonde locks scrapped into a high, ‘Blond Ambition’ style ponytail.
She then changed into a leather corset and thigh high black boots and – her most intriguing costume – a half jacket with gaffer tape around her boobs and a fake pointy shoulder.
Whilst we think the egg idea was a fab way to outshine the other celebs at the ceremony, the weird costumes, gaffer tape on her chest and ‘extra skin’, were all way too try hard, and it didn’t help that she doesn’t have the music to back up the hype; her new song just sounds like a rip-off of Madonna’s ‘Express yourself’.
We’re wondering where her ladyship is going to go next with the fashion? Perhaps now she’s worn a bacon dress and arrived in an egg she’ll turn up as a can of baked beans?
Trying to out-gaga each other in other ridiculous but fun dresses were two of the other biggest names in music; Rihanna and Katy Perry. We say fun, but that’s really just because they both looked like they should be sat at the top of a Christmas tree….
Wedding cake
Rihanna turned up in a tulle-stripped gown by Jean Paul Gaultier, an outfit she said she ‘pretty much snatched up off the runway’. Her hair and make-up looked flawless, but the dress was a little too edgy even for the red carpet. Nobody really wants to get that close to her oh-nah-nah!
Devilish Crime
Katy Perry also opted for a floor length white dress by Giorgio Armani. She decided to team it with a sequin bra, satin train and angel wings and would have looked amazing had she been going to a fancy dress party. We did love that she brought her Gran with her though. In fact, her grandmother actually managed to upstage the singer by rocking up with a diamante encrusted walking stick. You go, Gran!
Feeling Fierce
Another outfit we can’t fail to mention has to be Nicki Minaj’s Givenchy leopard print number. Never one to shy away from attention, the star roared her way across the red carpet balancing a bizarre custom made wig on her head. We did love her interview with Ryan Seacrest though and think she had her tongue firmly in her cheek when she declared the outfit “A masterpiece by Givenchy”. She went on to state “What they made for me is a miraculous piece of lionesss-meets-her-cub-meets-fabulocity-meets fashionista-meets-runaway-meets everything.” Purrr-fectly insane!
And the style award goes to…..
Some of the less entertaining but definitely more fabulous outfits included J.Lo’s silver-mirrored Pucci mini dress and stacked Christian Louboutin heels.
We absolutely LOVE this look, and think J.Lo looks amazing. She proved that being a mum to young twins doesn’t mean she suffers in the glamour stakes. And how sexy are those legs!?
Some of our other favourites included Selena Gomez’s gold J.Mendel gown which looked sophisticated and whimsical. The gorgeous mermaid shape and shimmering fabric had a similar effect to Katy Perry’s dress, but with much more style and class.
We also adored Kelly Osbourne’s über pretty lilac Tadashi frock. The gorgeous colour and undulating ruffles are beautiful, and the dress really flatters her super-tiny waist. She teamed her soft and sweet dress with a pair of bedazzled McQueen silver heels, and just-as-sparkly drop earrings. We really love the girly hair as well!
Our final fave has got to be Jennifer Hudson’s navy blue Versace gown topped off with a super tight sexy corset top. When all the other big artists are trying to outcrazy each other on the red carpet, Jennifer Hudson really stands out. The pleated skirt drew attention to her newly toned killer legs, while her sky-high Christian Louboutin stilettos added an edgy dimension to her stunning look. Her gorgeous sleek, straight hair matches her sleek new figure, too. Now that’s a Dreamgirl!

SAG Awards 2011 Fashion; Best & Worst Dressed On The Red Carpet
Hot on the heels of the Golden Globes came the Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday, and despite the cloudy weather in LA, the dresses were dazzling! In fact there were so many gorgeous dresses we found it hard to pick our faves!
The Best Dressed At The SAG Awards
Nudes, blush & pastels really dominated the red carpet and once again prove these romantic palettes are going to be huge for Spring/Summer.
Hilary Swank wowed in an asymmetric Versace number. We love how she’s complimented the dress with loose curls and simple accessories. She looks really confident and relaxed and certainly gives the younger stars a run for their money.
‘Glee’ actress Lea Michele also opted for nude, but added a bit of sparkle to the red carpet in this fabulous embellished Oscar de la Renta gown. The low-neck and hip-hugging cut, prevent the dress from looking anything but simple and we love the Tiffany & Co jewels!
We also adored Angie Harmon’s soft pastel pink Monique Lhuillier dress. This is definitely one of those love it or hate it dresses, but we think the feather skirt and jewelled bodice make her look like a fairytale princess, and we love how she took a gamble on the red carpet rather than playing it safe.
Best actress winner Natalie Portman showed off her baby bump in this soft white gown by Azarro. Whilst the dress was relatively simple she trumped all the other celebs on the accessories front, by draping herself in two million dollars worth of jewellery. Yowzas!
Some stars shunned the soft palettes seen above and really made a statement by adding a bold splash of colour to the red carpet. Instead of the green shades that dominated the Golden Globe Awards however, it was blue and red hues that worked as the stand-out colours for the evening.
Mila Kunis led the way in her Alexander McQueen dress which was by far our favourite dress of the night. The strapless dress was so bold and effused with colour that it even stood out from the red carpet she was standing on. We adore the sweetheart shape of the neckline and the long floaty chiffon fabric. The cinched-in waist is also perfect for her tiny frame and just goes to show petite girls can pull off maxi dresses just as well as tall girls!
Our other favourite dress that added some much needed colour to the event was Sofia Vergara’s cobalt blue wrap-waisted Roberto Cavalli gown. It looks like she’s been poured into the dress and shows off her enviable curves beautifully. She may have lost out to Betty White for her ‘Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor’ but we reckon those boobs should win an award of their own!
The Worst Dressed At The SAG Awards
There weren’t many really awful outfits but we thought a few celebs could have looked better….
Nicole Kidman’s Nina Ricci dress looked way too regal for a red carpet event, and there was a distracting amount of lace and frill going on. Nicole’s style is usually flawless but this just didn’t do a lot for her pale, willowy figure.
Christina Hendricks also failed to impress in this gothic L’Wren Scott dress. It looks more like a dressing gown than a red carpet frock, and she really loses her va-va-voom in it. The severe eye make-up doesn’t help the witchy look either.
We also thought Jennifer Lawrence’s Oscar de la Renta gown was way too bright. The black belt looks too harsh with the hot pink and the black shoes clash horribly as well. There’s just too much going on with the shoulder straps and bow. If the dress had been accessorized differently and without the black this could have looked a lot nicer.
Our least favourite look of the evening came from Winona Ryder in her frothy strapless Alberta Ferretti gown. She doesn’t exactly seem to exude confidence in this get-up & looks like a scared & confused gothic bride. Oh & the 1990’s prom committee want their dress back as well…….

Golden Globes 2011 Fashion
Golden Globes 2011 Fashion & Gossip
Our favourite celebs were out in full force on Sunday night to celebrate the 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards in Beverly Hills, and for anybody that watched it you’ll know the winners and losers were overshadowed by the controversial presenting of Ricky Gervais who hasn’t been out of the news ever since. We sat and watched it just to check out our favourite dresses from the evening but ended up watching the whole thing just to see who Gervais would make fun of next. Aside from the fabulous fashion, at least he injected a bit of spark into what tends to be a pompous awards ceremony even if some of the jokes were a little insulting.
Our favourite moment was when he introduced Bruce Willis as Ashton Kutcher’s dad. Genius!
Top Trends & Best Dressed
This year’s ceremony proved that old school Hollywood glamour is well and truly back in style. Most of the stars opted for full length and fabulous gowns, with fishtails and trains proving much more popular than the shorter numbers.
If there was one standout trend from the 2011 Golden Globes red carpet though, it was the A-list penchant for stunning emerald green gowns. From Catherine Zeta-Jones’ voluminous Monique Lhuillier frock, to Mila Kunis’ one-shoulder Vera Wang design and Angelina Jolie’s amazing Atelier Versace creation, the jewel tone was the shade to be seen in. We think they all look amazing, and are so glad Mila opted for this glamorous number after her dowdy People’s Choice Awards frock!
Another popular colour of the evening was red- with Mad Men’s January Jones leading the way in her scarlet Versace number. The dress is very revealing and has been criticised by many fashion observers, but we think she looks gorgeous, and there aren’t many people who could pull off this daring creation! Her co-star Christina Hendricks also had heads turning in her Romona Keveza dress which showed off her beautifully curvy figure, while Malin Akerman followed suit in scarlet Tommy Hilfiger.
There were lashings of top-to-toe sparkle this year and leading the way (literally- she was the first to arrive) with the full-on embellishment was Olivia Wilde in our favourite dress of the night. The gold Marchesa ballgown is stunning and so glamorous and looks utterly fabulous with her glittering Louboutin shoes. If we had a red carpet event to go to we’d dress like a princess as well!
Anne Hathaway continued the sparkly trend in her spangled bronze Armani Couture gown. We love the fact it’s modern and demure with long sleeves and a high neck but still has that movie star magic when she turns around to reveal a daring backless style.

Our other favourite dresses included Halle Berry’s and Eva Longoria’s, who proved the time-honoured long black dress is a style staple that will forever prove popular.
Eva’s Zac Posen fishtail number oozes old-style Hollywood glamour and gives her a gorgeous hourglass silhouette, whilst Halle’s Nina Ricci satin corset dress show’s off her to-die-for figure. The full impact of this dress was fully captured when she walked on stage to present an award and had the chiffon billowing behind her like a goddess.

Worst Dressed
Sack the stylist!
Tilda Swinton’s gold Jil Sander skirt and blouse were shapeless and dowdy and really did nothing for her. We do wish she’d wear a bit more make-up as well….
Michelle Williams gets hippy chic … minus the chic. The ‘Blue Valentine’ star’s flower power Valentino number, blooming with daisies on the neutral nude fabric, is a little too garden party and not enough Golden Globes. The neckline is a little too mumsy, and the cut is all wrong. She looks as unimpressed with her choice of outfit as we are…
Jennifer Love-Hewitt made a really bad fashion choice with her shapeless Romona Keveza number. The dress looked more bridal than Golden Globes, and the pleated bust and draped skirt did little for her curvy figure. Her glamorous updo is completely lost in this visual assault as well.
The lovely Natalie Portman should have been the belle of the ball with her nominated ‘Black Swan’ performance, her engagement, and a baby on the way but this Viktor & Rolf pink satin dress — complete with a hideous sequined rose — is uninspired at best.
One of our biggest disappointments of the night was Sandra Bullock’s look. Her pale pink Jenny Packham gown is lacking in structure and sex appeal whilst her new fringe is too heavy and unflattering. She looked thoroughly miserable both on the red carpet and on stage as well.
Julianne Moore’s hot pink Lanvin gown swamps her figure with its shapeless, strangely asymmetrical style. We love the bold colour as bright hues are bang on trend, but the pink really clashes with her red hair, and the dress is badly wrinkled.
And finally…. Helena Bonham Carter… (Best? Worst? Or just bonkers?)
We couldn’t leave Helena out of our blog post! You can always rely on the actress to wear the most bizarre outfits on the red carpet, and her Vivienne Westwood dress and mismatched red & green shoes certainly made her stand out. She may not have been the most fashion-forward but she sure looked like she was having fun! We love the mad professor hairstyle and sunglasses too! If Helena ever stepped out in something less than bonkers we’d be disappointed….

People’s Choice Awards Fashion 2011. Best & Worst Dressed.
People’s Choice Awards Fashion 2011. Best & Worst Dressed.
So awards season is upon us again (hooray!) and this week it all kicked off with the People’s Choice Awards in LA. As is now usual with Hollywood events, most of the buzz was about the Fashion, and it seems that the Christmas break as has been good for our favourite celebs as nearly all of them looked stunning….
We’ve had a look at who rocked the blue carpet at the Nokia theatre a few nights ago and compiled a list of our favourite dresses of the night. We didn’t really want to be negative as it’s the New Year but there were a few celebs we simply couldn’t ignore for their lack of style so we’ve stuck them in here as well
The Best…..
The Twilight Saga was a massive winner at the awards as usual (Eclipse picked up four gongs in total) and so we had to start off with the gorgeous Kristen Stewart who dazzled in a gold sequinned mini-dress by Reem Acra. Her soft curls, metallic eye shadow and dark lips really complimented the dress- but her best two accessories were of course Taylor Lautner & Robert Pattinson who sat either side of her all night long!
Another star that went for glitzy-glam was Kim Kardashian who wore a beautiful gold dress by Catherine Malandrino. We love Kim Kardashian because she always looks polished and is never afraid to flaunt her curves. This figure hugging dress really suits her frame and looks amazing with that Chanel Clutch and Nude Louboutin shoes. A really feminine look for her!
Kim’s younger sister Khloe also looked stunning in a floor length gown by Alexander McQueen. The beautiful shade of grey really compliments her newly dyed red hair (which we love) and the smouldering eye make-up with peachy cheeks and pastel nails make her look like a Grecian Goddess. Kim & Khloe were at the awards with the rest of the family to pick up the award for ‘Favourite TV Guilty Pleasure’.

Khloe Kardashian with her newly dyed red hair in her floor length gown
‘Favourite Country Artist’ winner Taylor Swift looked angelic in her balletic peach dress by New York Fashion Week designer J.Mendel. She looked lovely as always and we thought the red lipstick and soft up-do gave the dress a grown-up feel to it that made her look less country cutie and more sexy singing siren. We did think she could have done with eating a few more mince pies over Christmas though
At first we couldn’t decide if we liked Jennifer Aniston’s outfit or not. Yes she looks gorgeous, and yes she looks just as young (and probably better!) than she did in her Friends heyday- but as usual she’s wearing black, and her hair and make-up is the same as always. In the end, however, we decided that she looked so confident and happy in her black Dolce & Gabbana ensemble that we really quite liked it and so have added her to our best dressed list. She gets extra marks for that daring neckline and gold accessories. There were reports that she was drunk on stage but we think that’s probably a load of rubbish… Anyway, even if she was- who cares? She looked like she was having fun either way!
A lover of all things bright and fun, Katy Parry wore this frothy, colour-popping Betsey Johnson dress from her S/S 2011 collection. When we first saw this dress on the catwalk we couldn’t have thought of a better person for it! The neon colours and full tulle skirt suit her personality perfectly, and it looks amazing with the Casadei fuchsia satin peep toe heels as well! Katy picked up two trophies for favourite female artist and favourite online sensation.
The Worst…
Mila Kunis is a gorgeous girl, but just looked drab in this khaki strapless J Mendel number. She looked more ugly duckling than black swan (ouch!)….
We love Vanessa Williams and are massive fans of her in Desperate Housewives and Ugly Betty, but we didn’t think this Tadashi Shoji dress did her fabulous figure any favours. There was way too much shine going on that just made her look lumpy rather than curvy. We did love the Kimberly McDonald Jewellery on her though!
Raven-Symone stepped onto the blue carpet straight from panto maybe? Or was she about to go and fight crime?…

This look is just so wrong for a big event like the People's Choice Award's, we just don't know what else to say!
The Marmite look of the night….
We figured Leighton Meester’s dress was one that people would either love or hate. It’s a cute & girly dress from the Vionnet Spring 2011 collection. Some of us thought that although lovely, it wasn’t really red-carpet worthy and was more suited for a warm summer’s day at a barbecue….whilst other’s thought Leighton had picked something refreshing, laid back & unpretentious. We’d love to know what you think!
Best Dressed Of The Week 16th November 2010
Our Best Dressed Celebs Of The Week!
This week the LBD and the LWD (Litte White Dress!) are dominating the red carpet with lots of lace and feminine shapes.
Our favourite dress of the week was Emma Watson’s Rafael Lopez dress which she wore to the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I premiere . It’s looks soooooo cute & girly and really shows off her fabulous pins!
The sheer black lace top section and the feathered skirt are bang on trend, and the fun voluminous shape really suits her, especially with that pixie cropped hairstyle, smoldering make-up and Charlotte Olympia killer heels!

Emma Watson Looks Bewitching At The Harry Potter Premiere
Gwynneth Paltrow sported not one, but two show-stopping gowns this week and proves she’s still got her finger firmly on the fashion pulse.
On 8th November she wowed on the red carpet at the Country Strong Premiere in Nashville wearing a Chado Ralph Rucci S/S ’11 black fitted frock with sheer bodice and hem detailing and Lanvin pumps. Its sexy panelling revealed her toned stomach and tiny waist proving all those fitness sessions with Tracy Anderson really do pay off!
Her second amazing dress was showcased on the 10th November at the 44th Annual Country Music Awards.
The stunning Atelier Versace gown with it’s one shoulder style, cut out waist and slashed-to-the-thigh style would be a difficult look for most to pull off but Gywneth has a body to die for! It’s hard to believe this woman is 38!
Our other favourite looks this week….

Kirsten Dunst looking ethereal at the Moca Annual Gala in her Chanel Resort 2011 Gown complimeted with 1950's hair & make-up.
