Christmas Party Dresses
The Holidays Are Coming…
We know it’s still only November but as we saw the Coca-Cola advert on TV today we have decided Christmas must officially be here.
That means us girls now have the perfect excuse to go shopping for Christmas party dresses! Hooray!
We know there are always a million and one things to do in the run up to Christmas, but for now lets forget about the food, decorations and what socks you’re going to buy dad for Christmas and have a little think about what fabulous look we want to go with this year…..
Picking That Perfect Dress- (Part 1!)
Ok, so sometimes it might seem like there’s an overwhelming choice of dresses on the high street, and unless you’re a true shopaholic, it can actually seem a little daunting. But by putting just a little thought into the outfit, you can make the decision so much easier- and when you find that perfect Christmas dress you’ll feel that extra bit special over the holiday season. You’ll walk into that party with increased confidence and a big smile on your face, and instead of worrying about how you look you’ll only have to worry about how many more times you’ll have to listen to The Pogues arguing again that night!
A good starting point is to think of the occasion (and who’s going to be there of course!) and decide whether a long or short dress would be best suited.
Always take into account your size & shape. If you’re shopping for plus sizes there’s a brilliant range of dresses to choose from nowadays. Empire-waisted dresses always create a flattering silhouette and this classic shape can be easily worn no matter what your age. Larger ladies also look fabulous in A-Line skirts & can usually pull off chunky fashion jewellery better, which can sometimes drown slimmer women. This is especially good at Christmas as there are so many gorgeous jewelled accessories to choose from and if you prefer plain coloured dresses or black (as it’s obviously the colour that knocks a dress size off of us) you can use the jewellery to glam things up a bit.
If you’re a slimmer lady, then bodycon styles will show off your slender frame whilst ruffles & horizontal stripes will make you appear curvier if you want to add a little extra shape in places.
If you’re looking for something with a bit more cleavage there are lots of dresses with padding in the bust (even a lot of the strapless styles) so you don’t have to wear a padded bra or worry about a stray chicken fillet popping out on the dancefloor.

Bodycon Dresses Look Great On Slimmer Figures, Whilst Ruffles Add Shape...
Most importantly whatever size you are make sure the dress you buy fits really well. Don’t try squeezing into anything too tight because you’ll only end up feeling uncomfortable and looking bigger than you actually are (bulging seams are not a good look) and likewise wearing something too big will just make you look sloppy.
The best way to find the perfect fit isn’t always to go by size, but to go by the measurements as well- particularly if you’re shopping online. Likewise, if you’re buying at the shops, make sure you try it on first. As most of us know UK sizing is so different from one shop to another and half the time your dress size is a state of mind.
It’s always essential to show off your best features in your party dress. If you have fabulous pins go ahead and show them off but do remember not to show off too much cleavage as well. You also don’t want to pick something so short you’re pulling it down half the night; being confident in your dress is the key to really working it at the Christmas party this year!
The Feather Dress – Work the Trend
We’re loving the current feather trend here at Pinksquid Clothing!
With the party season looming upon us, the high street shops have taken cue from the catwalks & have become stocked full of feathery pieces!
This is a trend that’s also going to be hot for Spring/Summer 2011; Alexander McQueen, Christian Cota, Giambattista Valli & Zac Posen all showcased feathers in their collections at the S/S 2011 shows, so investing in something feathery now could be a worthy investment.

If you’re not really into sequins or fur, feathers are also a chic & pretty alternative for getting noticed this christmas. The range of varieties also means you don’t have to work the feather trend full on. Feathers are appearing on earrings and necklaces, clutch bags, hair pieces and even shoes (for those who want to put their feather fashion foot forward!).
If you love hollywood glamour & really want to work the trend du jour, a feather boa is always a simple but fabulous way to dress up an outfit at christmas!
Of course, it doesn’t just have to be the fluffy feather look either- you could also choose to wear silk, organza or chiffon feathers, or for the more conservative fashionista, feather prints are totally hot right now as well.
From provocative sexy to elegant and refined, the new feathery designs can suit different occasions from casual to formal to partywear. Most importantly, choose the feather outfit that suits your personality and body type perfectly!
Check out our Chiffon Feather Dress which is perfect for the up and coming party season. It’s nude shade is also bang on trend, and perfect for taking you into spring/summer in style!
