Fashion At The AMAs. Metallics, Glitz and Glamour rule!

Fairy Frocks, Dazzling Dresses & Glistening Gowns……

Sequins, sparkle, metallics, – the American Music Awards had it all! The festive fashion choices of the stars that attended the ceremony in Los Angeles last night has got us feeling all excited about !

Some of the lovely ladies sporting the shimmering sheen include Selena Gomez, Heidi Klum, , , and .

Selena Gomez was one of the stand-out fashionistas  of the night, stepping out in a champagne backless silk gown by Giorgio . With it’s plunging v-neck, front slit and draped fringed sash she teamed her classy gown with a pair of silver strappy heels, and a glittering handbag (having Justin Bieber on her arm didn’t exactly hurt the overall look either!)

Another lady channelling old-school Hollywood glamour was the gorgeous who wore a gold beaded Reem Acra  column dress that perfectly showed off her svelte figure. The country starlet added green earrings for the perfect pop of colour and a sleek side-ponytail to finish off the glamorous look.

(still looking super skinny after her dramatic weight loss) wore a drape-front dress by Jenny Packham, teamed with Christian Louboutin shoes, and a swarovski bag.

Heidi Klum also went for a short number in a silver laser-cut, stencil inspired dress by Giles with floral punch-outs in the bodice and the hemline.

poured her curves into a sequin bustier dress from Vivienne Westwood’s Gold Label line. The oriental draped gown was accessorized with pink hair and electric blue shoes which we love!

Unfortunately not everyone got it right with the theme, and  chose a rather ill-fitting Herve Leger bandage dress while accompanying Maroon 5 for the hit “Moves Like Jagger.”  The dress was so tight you could see what she had for dinner, and the shining fabric only added to the effect of making her look a lot bigger than she is.  There’s nothing wrong with those curves but squashed boobs do not make for a good look!

Christmas Party Dresses- (Part 2!)

Picking That Perfect Dress!

party dresses always come in luxurious fabrics and rich colours that you often can’t get away with at other times of the year so continuing with our Party Dresses blog (see below)  help and tips, we decided to dedicate a whole post on choosing the type of dress according to the material & shade!

Velvet

For 2010 velvet has made a comeback especially after Emma Watson rocked up to a glitzy event at Claridges this month with her Harry Potter co-stars wearing a beautiful Vionnet dress.

This can be a tricky fabric to wear but if you match it with lace or chiffon it can have a luxuriously rich look.

If you can’t afford to spend too much then stick to darker shades as they look more expensive and keep your make-up fresh when wearing velvet as dark tones on both your lips and eyes could end up giving you the 90’s velvet look and not the 2010 one!

Don’t overdo it- wear just one velvet piece, and never ever wear a velvet dress with a velvet jacket as it’s way too panto!

Satin

Satin is always a popular choice for , because it makes you feel instantly dressed up, sexy & feminine. The good thing about satin is it can also be worn easily throughout the rest of the year so it’s a good fabric to go for if you want to buy something that will work next season as well.

Satin drapes beautifully over the skin, but it can also cling awkwardly over bulges (no matter how small!) so do make sure you get a really good fitting dress if choosing satin. It’s often worth investing in seamless underwear and if you have lumps and bumps you want to cover invest in some great shapewear to add smoothness. It’s always a good idea to go for something that has some added stretch to it, and a cotton-mix sateen fabric is always flattering especially if it is lined.

Like with velvet don’t overdo it- stick to one or two satin pieces at a time and keep accessories to a minimum- it’s a beautiful & luxurious fabric & the fabric is enough to do the talking!

Embellished

Us girls do love a bit of sparkle at , and jewelled or are great way to still be able to wear a safe colour (Like black!) without looking boring. It also means you can keep jewellery to a minimum so can end up more cost-effective!

Keep the look classy and and don’t overdo it with the sparkles- you don’t want to look like you’re auditioning for strictly come dancing! If you’re curvy do only wear the embellishment in one area as all-over glitz will make you look bigger than you are.

Finally, check the quality before you buy and look for secure stitching. Leaving a trail of beads in your wake is no way to make a lasting impression!

Colour Block

Wearing just one block colour is really in style right now, and as ever the shops are full or lots of reds & purples this . For us at Pinksquid Clothing, the most interesting colour of the season has been magenta pink. It’s a great stand out colour that suits most skin tones, and will ensure you’ll look a little bit different from the rest of the ladies at the party.

If you’re going to go for one colour all over. Do make sure the colour flatters your skin tone, and if you do opt for red, don’t overdo it with the fake tan- red looks so much more striking on natural skin tones. You can really create impact with red as well by matching your lipstick to it and keeping your eye make-up to a minimum.

If you really want the colour of your outfit to make an impact you could also wear a contrasting coloured belt to show off your waist!

Printed Dresses

Printed dresses have been on trend all year, but now that the extravagent party season is here it means we can wear louder and prouder prints or unleash our inner Bet Lynch with leopard print and still look like babes!
