Summer Maxi Dresses For Your 2012 Holiday!
The Maxi Dress Trend Keeps On Going!
Now is the time to start thinking about getting your summer wardrobe together, and a maxi dress is a holiday essential!
The flattering long length of the dress oozes glamour as well as covering a multitude of sins ( there’s no need to worry if you haven’t shaved your legs ladies!), and there are so many different prints and shapes to choose from this season it’s easy to find a style to flatter your figure.
Get yourself a casual maxi dress and team it with flats as a great beach cover-up, or go for something more sexy and team with heels for those post-beach cocktails!
They’re an obvious choice for tall ladies, but don’t think you can’t wear one if you’re short- Nicole Ritchie rocks her maxi dresses better than most celebrities and she’s tiny!
If you’re on a budget get yourself a maxi dress that will last you through to winter as well. Pick a darker colour like black or purple and you’ll only need to add a diamante clutch and heels to re-vamp the look for Christmas!
We’ve got a cute selection of maxi dresses at Pinksquid Clothing with many more styles due to arrive soon. We’ve picked out some of our fave’s below….

TOWIE Girls Hit The Town In Animal Print
Leopard Print Dress- Fashion Trend Alert 2011
If you do a lot of shopping, read a lot of fashion magazines or just have eyes, you’ll probably have noticed that there’s a whole lot of animal print goin’ on this winter. Lots of celebs have been wearing leopard, zebra or tiger print, and as usual the trend is best approached with caution lest you end up looking like a middle-aged barmaid in a northern soap opera.
Our favourite TOWIE girls have been seen hitting the town this week in different variations of animal print and despite their usual abundance of fake tan and false lashes, they’ve managed to pull the look off without looking tacky.
Maria Fowler and Lauren Pope were pictured leaving the Sanctum Soho Hotel Bar this week in animal print, with Maria nailing two of this season’s trends in a tiger print skater style dress with belt, whilst Lauren added a leopard print top to her leather skirt.
Former Towie star Amy Childs was spotted in a grey long sleeved leopard print number this week and illustrated how animal print can easily be worn during the day as well as night. Toning the print down with black tights and boots is a great way to go for a more chic, less wild look
Chloe Sims also looked fierce this week, wearing a cute one shoulder style leopard print dress at the Captain Morgan’s spiced beach party.
We have some fabulous leopard print dresses available right now at Pinksquid Clothing.
Wear it like the TOWIE girls with plain black heels and let the print do the talking!

Christmas Party Dresses- (Part 2!)
Picking That Perfect Dress!
Christmas party dresses always come in luxurious fabrics and rich colours that you often can’t get away with at other times of the year so continuing with our Christmas Party Dresses blog (see below) help and tips, we decided to dedicate a whole post on choosing the type of dress according to the material & shade!
Velvet
For 2010 velvet has made a comeback especially after Emma Watson rocked up to a glitzy event at Claridges this month with her Harry Potter co-stars wearing a beautiful Vionnet dress.
This can be a tricky fabric to wear but if you match it with lace or chiffon it can have a luxuriously rich look.
If you can’t afford to spend too much then stick to darker shades as they look more expensive and keep your make-up fresh when wearing velvet as dark tones on both your lips and eyes could end up giving you the 90’s velvet look and not the 2010 one!
Don’t overdo it- wear just one velvet piece, and never ever wear a velvet dress with a velvet jacket as it’s way too panto!
Satin
Satin is always a popular choice for Christmas, because it makes you feel instantly dressed up, sexy & feminine. The good thing about satin is it can also be worn easily throughout the rest of the year so it’s a good fabric to go for if you want to buy something that will work next season as well.
Satin drapes beautifully over the skin, but it can also cling awkwardly over bulges (no matter how small!) so do make sure you get a really good fitting dress if choosing satin. It’s often worth investing in seamless underwear and if you have lumps and bumps you want to cover invest in some great shapewear to add smoothness. It’s always a good idea to go for something that has some added stretch to it, and a cotton-mix sateen fabric is always flattering especially if it is lined.
Like with velvet don’t overdo it- stick to one or two satin pieces at a time and keep accessories to a minimum- it’s a beautiful & luxurious fabric & the fabric is enough to do the talking!
Embellished
Us girls do love a bit of sparkle at Christmas, and jewelled or sequin dresses are great way to still be able to wear a safe colour (Like black!) without looking boring. It also means you can keep jewellery to a minimum so can end up more cost-effective!
Keep the look classy and and don’t overdo it with the sparkles- you don’t want to look like you’re auditioning for strictly come dancing! If you’re curvy do only wear the embellishment in one area as all-over glitz will make you look bigger than you are.
Finally, check the quality before you buy and look for secure stitching. Leaving a trail of beads in your wake is no way to make a lasting impression!
Colour Block
Wearing just one block colour is really in style right now, and as ever the shops are full or lots of reds & purples this Christmas. For us at Pinksquid Clothing, the most interesting colour of the season has been magenta pink. It’s a great stand out colour that suits most skin tones, and will ensure you’ll look a little bit different from the rest of the ladies at the party.
If you’re going to go for one colour all over. Do make sure the colour flatters your skin tone, and if you do opt for red, don’t overdo it with the fake tan- red looks so much more striking on natural skin tones. You can really create impact with red as well by matching your lipstick to it and keeping your eye make-up to a minimum.
If you really want the colour of your outfit to make an impact you could also wear a contrasting coloured belt to show off your waist!
Printed Dresses
Printed dresses have been on trend all year, but now that the extravagent Christmas party season is here it means we can wear louder and prouder prints or unleash our inner Bet Lynch with leopard print and still look like babes!
