Oscars Fashion 2012 – The Dresses Steal The Show

The Oscars took place on Sunday night and the fashion on the red carpet was in the spotlight as much as the films…

As the awards season comes to an end, the fashion at the Oscars 2012 didn’t disappoint!

The overall were an eclectic lot, and strapless looks, long sleeves, and white gowns aside, there were surprisingly few running trends emerging on the red carpet. Colours and silhouettes were all over the place- but to be honest we think it made it far more interesting!

Here are our top picks:

We have to mention first because she was our stand-out favourite. She took a big fashion risk with her white caped gown, but it definitely paid off. Not only did she look stunning, but it was completely unlike anything else on the red carpet. The simple but elegant outfit just goes to show there’s no need for frills, jewels, bells or whistles to look a total knockout!

Angelina Jolie wore her velvet full-skirted Versace with attitude! Making the most of her thigh-high split, she flashed acres of long, lithe leg in her daring gown. With her provocative posing and determination to show off her enviable limb, Angelina managed to make her leg the star of the night (and she wasn’t even nominated!)

Michelle Williams who was up for best actress, wore a beautiful coral red tulle Louis Vuitton gown, and added a much-needed pop of colour to the red carpet. The strapless had pleated & ruffle detailing, a peplum waist and a small bow at the hip. Sporting a short, blonde pixie cut, Michelle paired the red with a Fred Leighton forevermark necklace, featuring 30 carats worth of diamonds, and a deep red lipstick. We love her vibrant look!

Another lady in red was previous Oscar winner, . As the face of Miss Dior, we expected her to wear something from the French fashion house, however we weren’t expecting this stunning 1954 vintage number. She teamed the with a Charlotte Olympia box clutch and a dazzling V-shaped Harry Winston necklace.

Penelope Cruz brought a touch of old-school Hollywood glamour to the proceedings with her princess-like Armani gown. Channeling Grace Kelly, she matched her dreamy blue with twinkling Chopard diamonds and a classic up-do.

We also adored Stacy Keibler’s Marchesa . Looking like an Oscar statuette, this was perfect for the academy awards, and the metallic sheen of the looks amazing with her blonde hair and glowing complexion. George Clooney was also the perfect accessory!

We had to mention Octavia Spencer as well. Not only did she win the best supporting actress award, she was also one of the best dressed. She really made a splash in her super-flattering beaded silk and tulle Tadashi Shoji gown -a designer she’s remained loyal to throughout the awards season. The gown was paired with Jimmy Choo shoes, a Judith Leiber clutch and Neil Lane diamonds for added sparkle!

Rihanna’s Dress Steals The Show At The Grammy Awards!

Rihanna rocks the red carpet in an eye-popping by Armani!

The 2012 54th annual Grammy awards took place in LA on sunday evening, and as usual the fashion was a massive talking point. Compared to the Bafta’s which took place on the same night where the fashion was unassuming and conservative, the fashion at the Grammys was outlandish, bold and sexy!

Rihanna’s was our favourite of the night. The singer looked stunning with her newly dyed blonde hair, and super-toned figure and the barely-there custom made Giorgio Armani she wore was heart-stopping. The floor-length gown, was plunging, sideless, backless and split to the knee. She accessorized it with gold jewellery, simple clutch and bags of confidence.

“This is a collaboration between Mr. Armani and myself,” the 23-year-old told E! News’ Ryan Seacrest. “I wanted something a little bit like Michelle Pfeiffer in Scarface.” She went on to describe the ensemble as “simple but sexy, and a little gangsta at the same time.”

Rihanna picked up the Grammy award for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration yesterday for her 2011 single ‘All Of The Lights’ with rapper Kanye West.

The Bajan singer also performed her Big Top 40 hit ’We Found Love’ before giving a duet performance with Coldplay of their track ’Princess Of China’.

Fashion At The AMAs. Metallics, Glitz and Glamour rule!

Christmas Fairy Frocks, Dazzling & Glistening Gowns……

Sequins, sparkle, metallics, – the American Music Awards had it all! The festive fashion choices of the stars that attended the ceremony in Los Angeles last night has got us feeling all excited about Christmas!

Some of the lovely ladies sporting the shimmering sheen include Selena Gomez, Heidi Klum, Jennifer Hudson, Katy Perry, and Taylor Swift.

Selena Gomez was one of the stand-out fashionistas  of the night, stepping out in a champagne backless silk gown by Giorgio Armani. With it’s plunging v-neck, front slit and draped fringed sash she teamed her classy gown with a pair of silver strappy heels, and a glittering handbag (having Justin Bieber on her arm didn’t exactly hurt the overall look either!)

Another lady channelling old-school Hollywood glamour was the gorgeous Taylor Swift who wore a gold beaded Reem Acra  column that perfectly showed off her svelte figure. The country starlet added green earrings for the perfect pop of colour and a sleek side-ponytail to finish off the glamorous look.

Jennifer Hudson (still looking super skinny after her dramatic weight loss) wore a metallic drape-front  by Jenny Packham, teamed with Christian Louboutin shoes, and a swarovski bag.

Heidi Klum also went for a short metallic number in a silver laser-cut, stencil inspired by Giles with floral punch-outs in the bodice and the hemline.

Katy Perry poured her curves into a sequin bustier from Vivienne Westwood’s Gold Label line. The oriental draped gown was accessorized with pink hair and electric blue shoes which we love!

Unfortunately not everyone got it right with the metallic theme, and Christina Aguilera  chose a rather ill-fitting  bandage while accompanying Maroon 5 for the hit “Moves Like Jagger.”  The was so tight you could see what she had for dinner, and the shining fabric only added to the effect of making her look a lot bigger than she is.  There’s nothing wrong with those curves but squashed boobs do not make for a good look!

Grammy Awards 2011 Fashion: The Best & Worst Dresses (And an egg!)

Crazy Fashion at the Grammys

We’re well into awards season now and as always the Grammys proves to be one of the most interesting ceremonies in terms of the fashion. Unlike the Golden Globes and Baftas where haute couture and elegance rule the red carpet, the music award ceremony is all about slashed , vivid colour, and lots of bling. Let’s forget New York fashion week is well underway for now, because on Sunday night one of the most entertaining runway shows took place in LA!

Eggcentric

As usual Lady Gaga was out to grab headlines by arriving in an egg (yes an egg- she was apparently ‘incubating’ in it to get into character). She then burst out of it onto the stage in a pale yellow crop top and long skirt with her long blonde locks scrapped into a high, ‘Blond Ambition’ style ponytail.

She then changed into a leather corset and thigh high black boots and – her most intriguing costume – a half jacket with gaffer tape around her boobs and a fake pointy shoulder.

Whilst we think the egg idea was a fab way to outshine the other celebs at the ceremony, the weird costumes, gaffer tape on her chest and ‘extra skin’, were all way too try hard, and it didn’t help that she doesn’t have the music to back up the hype; her new song just sounds like a rip-off of Madonna’s ‘Express yourself’.

We’re wondering where her ladyship is going to go next with the fashion? Perhaps now she’s worn a bacon and arrived in an egg she’ll turn up as a can of baked beans?

Trying to out-gaga each other in other ridiculous but fun were two of the other biggest names in music; Rihanna and Katy Perry. We say fun, but that’s really just because they both looked like they should be sat at the top of a Christmas tree….

Wedding cake

Rihanna turned up in a tulle-stripped gown by Jean Paul Gaultier, an outfit she said she ‘pretty much snatched up off the runway’. Her hair and make-up looked flawless, but the was a little too edgy even for the red carpet. Nobody really wants to get that close to her oh-nah-nah!

Devilish Crime

Katy Perry also opted for a floor length white by Giorgio Armani. She decided to team it with a sequin bra, satin train and angel wings and would have looked amazing had she been going to a fancy party. We did love that she brought her Gran with her though. In fact, her grandmother actually managed to upstage the singer by rocking up with a diamante encrusted walking stick. You go, Gran!

Feeling Fierce

Another outfit we can’t fail to mention has to be Nicki Minaj’s leopard print number. Never one to shy away from attention, the star roared her way across the red carpet balancing a bizarre custom made wig on her head. We did love her interview with Ryan Seacrest though and think she had her tongue firmly in her cheek when she declared the outfit “A masterpiece by ”. She went on to state “What they made for me is a miraculous piece of lionesss-meets-her-cub-meets-fabulocity-meets fashionista-meets-runaway-meets everything.”  Purrr-fectly insane!

And the style award goes to…..

Some of the less entertaining but definitely more fabulous outfits included J.Lo’s silver-mirrored Pucci mini and stacked Christian Louboutin heels.

We absolutely LOVE this look, and think J.Lo looks amazing. She proved that being a mum to young twins doesn’t mean she suffers in the glamour stakes. And how sexy are those legs!?

Some of our other favourites included Selena Gomez’s gold J.Mendel gown which looked sophisticated and whimsical. The gorgeous mermaid shape and shimmering fabric had a similar effect to Katy Perry’s , but with much more style and class.

We also adored Kelly Osbourne’s über pretty lilac Tadashi frock. The gorgeous colour and undulating ruffles are beautiful, and the really flatters her super-tiny waist.  She teamed her soft and sweet with a pair of bedazzled McQueen silver heels, and just-as-sparkly drop earrings. We really love the girly hair as well!

Our final fave has got to be Jennifer Hudson’s navy blue Versace gown topped off with a super tight sexy corset top. When all the other big artists are trying to outcrazy each other on the red carpet, Jennifer Hudson really stands out. The pleated skirt drew attention to her newly toned killer legs, while her sky-high Christian Louboutin stilettos added an edgy dimension to her stunning look. Her gorgeous sleek, straight hair matches her sleek new figure, too. Now that’s a Dreamgirl!
