Kate Moss The Style Icon

Why You Have To Love Style Icon Kate Moss!

Kate Moss is without doubt one of the most iconic celebrities of our time. She’s a massive trendsetter with an individual, eclectic style and has been at the top of her game for over twenty years. There aren’t many of her supermodel peers who have managed to continue modelling up until the present day whilst still looking enviably young and hip.

Croydon’s most famous export, she was discovered at the age of 14 in JFK airport and has been storming the modelling and celebrity scene ever since.

She’s influenced fashion more than any other style icon, motivating the post-Twiggy waif look of the nineties, forming the noughties version of boho-chic, & inventing festival fashion; Let’s face it, hotpants and wellies have never been sexier!

What makes Kate Moss stand out from the rest of the ‘fashion icons’ of our time, is her capacity for looking effortlessly chic. Whether she’s dressed up or down she never looks overdone. She has the ability to look stylish without looking like she’s given it any thought. In short, she wears the clothes and never lets the clothes wear her (Victoria Beckham take note!)

Because of Kate Moss’s love of Ugg boots and ballet pumps, this comfy footwear has remained fashionable for years. Thanks to her we can still look stylish and sexy without having to wear feet- crippling stilettos or high heeled boots.

Kate Moss appeals to women because she’s not traditionally beautiful, and at 5’7” is closer in height to the average female, unlike the majority of catwalk models. She’s always managed to simultaneously be the girl we want to be, as well as the girl we want to be with. She’s even dated the gorgeous Johnny Depp without us wanting to gauge out her eyes!

She’s also shown that she can be human and make mistakes (Pete Doherty and the infamous cocaine scandal of 2005 probably being the biggest examples) and yet she’s always managed to bounce back from it all. After the Daily Mirror ran the front page pictures of her allegedly snorting lines of coke, she lost many major modelling contracts including one with H&M worth a reported £4million. Despite this, she managed to make a massive comeback a year later, bagging 18 contracts for autumn/winter 2006. On top of her lucrative modelling contracts, she’s now a fashion designer for Topshop; giving us mere mortals a chance to buy a little bit of her style.

Kate Moss is an icon because despite being in the media spotlight, we actually know very little about her as a person. She’s famously private & gives very few interviews, and has therefore remained an enigma throughout her career. A massive chunk of her personality shines through in what she wears rather than what she says.

She’s an unstoppable fashion force and an inspirational comeback queen. She’s defied the age limits of modelling and continues to diversify with her on-stage rock-chick antics, perfumes and books. She’s the woman everyone girl wants to dress like and despite being in the public eye for so long we can’t help but want to find out more….
