Katy Perry Leads The Fashion Pack At The 2011 MTV VMA’s!
The 28th Annual MTV Video Music Awards were held at the Nokia Theatre in LA on Sunday, and as usual the fashion moments proved just as entertaining as the performances.
With Beyoncé showing off her baby bump for the first time, Lady Gaga dressing as greasy boy alter-ego Joe Calderone, and Nicky Minaj adorning a surgical mask and fuzzy slippers it was hard to decide which diva managed to steal the show. In the end we decided Katy Perry deserved to be crowned fashion queen of the evening simply because of the sheer quantity of wacktacular outfits she worked in one night.
Katy Perry began by walking the red carpet in a geisha-style Atelier Versace mini dress that featured cherry blossoms, neon trimming, twinkling crystals and sexy cut-out detailing. The ‘Firework’ singer teamed her exquisite dress with a pair of neon pink strappy sandals by Jimmy Choo and wore Lorraine Schwartz jewellery. She accessorized her newly dyed pink hair with pink flowers, and finished the look with a pretty parasol.
Then, like the colourful chameleon she is, Mrs Brand switched into a mouthwatering confection from Christian Dior’s A/W’11 couture collection to collect her Best Video award. Reminding us of something yummy from a box of Liquorice Allsorts she wore a pink jacket with mint green lining and an oversized yellow button, a black and white printed tulip skirt, multi-coloured Giuseppe Zanotti wedges and finished the look with a cheese-like square hat by Stephen Jones! Deliciously fabulous!
Our other fave outfit of Katy’s was her custom-made dress by Johnny Wujek for Furne One. The glittery dress was decorated with broken records and one record was even perched on her head! A bit of an obvious statement (she’s just broken the record for being the only living artist – and only the second in history – to achieve five No.1 singles on the US Billboard Hot 100 from the same album) but we loved it all the same. Katy paired her fab dress with ankle strap Giuseppe Zanotti heels.
Beyoncé Shows Off Her Baby Bump!
Beyoncé stole the show by announcing her pregnancy and rose above the outlandishly dressed video vixens by wearing a classic orange Lanvin one-shoulder silk crepe cut-away gown and Lorraine Schwartz jewels. She paired her cut-away gown with ivory Swarovski platform heels with pearl details by Rene Caovilla. Positively beaming, whilst clutching her new baby bump, Beyoncé looked beautiful, relaxed and happy.
The Best Of The Rest… The Little Black Dress!
The LBD was definitely the popular choice of the night with Jessie J, Adele and Zoe Saldana all channeling the look.
One of our favourite looks of the night however, came from Selena Gomez who wore an elegant, black Julien MacDonald dress, Judith Leiber clutch and Lorraine Schwartz jewellery. Showing off her pins, wearing slightly gothic make-up and wearing her hair back in a low bun she manages to keep this look young.
Britney Spears also went back to black and turned up grinning widely before being honoured with the Michael Jackson Vanguard Award. For the big night Britney wore a black sequined romper and belt by Moschino with a zig-zagging print. The singer teamed her romper with Gina peep-toe calf boots. We’re not too sure we like the shoes on Britney (they make her legs look a little stumpy), but her hair and make-up look flawless, and she looks healthy and happy which is lovely to see after years of troubles.
Another songstress who opted for a LBD and made our best-dressed list was X Factor judge Kelly Rowland who wowed in a Falguni & Shane peacock dress teamed with Louboutin heels and matching clutch. We think the former Destiny’s child singer looked absolutely show-stopping!
And The Most Bizarre Outfit Goes To……
Well really it should be Lady Gaga who not only dressed as a boy but completely inhabited the maleness of her persona the entire evening, but as she was technically a man for the night we’re voting for Nicky Minaj who is fast becoming one of the most kooky red carpet characters we’ve seen. Her confusing -but-amusing outfit is hard to describe, but aside from looking like she’s raided a cuddly toy factory, she’s wearing a Shojono Tomo mask, an ice-cream necklace, a pointy mirrored thingy, a pink tutu, tights, socks, and candy-floss hair! We think maybe she went to a costume shop and just couldn’t decide what to wear?
Let us know who you think was best and worst dressed!
